About Three Wise Men and a Baby
Three grown brothers who have drifted apart are left in charge of a baby found at a fire station in the run-up to Christmas, while their mother is called away. Between nappies and night feeds they are pushed into the family's neighbourhood decorating contest, and into finally talking about the father who walked out on them. Paul Campbell, Tyler Hynes and Andrew Walker play the brothers, with Margaret Colin as their mother.
Three of Hallmark's most dependable leading men, cast as brothers and handed a baby, is the kind of idea that should not need to work this well. It became the most-watched film on US cable in 2022, and the appeal is plain: nappy-changing slapstick, a front-lawn decorating war and, underneath, three grown men finally talking about the father who left.
Tidying every brother into a romance by the end is very Hallmark. So is the warmth.
Can the kids watch?
Our take: not rated by the BBFC. A gentle comedy with nothing scary in it; the talk of an absent father may land with older children, and the romance subplots will pass younger ones by. Should suit most families from about eight.
