Christmas TV
Only Fools and Horses Christmas specials
British, BBC 1 (BBC One), first shown 1981
About the show
John Sullivan's sitcom about two brothers scraping a living as market traders in south London ran on BBC 1 from 1981, but it is the Christmas specials that made it part of the British Christmas. Over twenty years the show became a fixture of the festive schedule: seven series gave way to feature-length Christmas Day episodes, the 1996 trilogy drew more than 24 million viewers for its finale, a record for a UK sitcom, and the 2001 comeback was the most-watched programme of its decade. Only a few of the specials are actually set at Christmas; most are big Christmas Day adventures.
