The story

About Christmas at the Catnip Café

A marketing executive inherits half of a cat café from her great aunt and plans to sell her share before Christmas to fund a condo. The other half belongs to a local vet who wants to keep it open. They agree she will help run the café's Christmas events for three weeks first. Over the events, a Christmas market and a party, she begins to care about the cats, the town and her business partner. Erin Cahill and Paul Campbell lead.

The CineClaus verdict

A Hallmark romance with a good gimmick: a city woman inherits half a cat café, plans to sell, and has three weeks of Christmas fundraising events to get through first. The cats do most of the persuading. Christmas is the deadline rather than the engine, and nobody doubts where it ends up.

Olivia and Ben are easy company, the stakes are a business sale, and a grumpy tabby steals the last act. Pleasant background viewing for a December evening.

Can the kids watch?

Not BBFC rated

Our take: fine for most children, as there is no threat, though the film has no BBFC certificate to check and the romance will bore the very young.
