Our take
The show's first Christmas without its original boss, and it shows: the party feels like it is still working out whose office this is now, and who gets to set the tone for the holidays. Andy's eager wish-granting is sweet, Dwight and Jim's bonus feud is a solid engine, and Robert California's gloomy party mood is a strange, funny note. Not essential viewing, but the air guitar scene alone earns it a place on any Christmas rewatch.
What happens
Andy, now running the Scranton branch, is determined to make this the best office Christmas ever and promises to grant every employee's holiday wish. Jim and Dwight have been pranking each other and someone in their cluster of desks has complained, so Andy tells them that if they do not stop, each one's Christmas bonus will go to the other. Andy brings his new girlfriend, Jessica, to the party, which is awkward for Erin, who still has feelings for him. Robert California, reeling from his divorce, decides to drown his sorrows at the party and spends the evening doing shots with Erin, who ends up very drunk. Along the way Dwight, Gabe and Creed break into furious air guitar to Carol of the Bells.
Can the kids watch it?
Rated 12 on the UK DVD for moderate language and sex references, and much of the party plot is about heavy drinking; best for teenagers.
