Our take
The episode the show had been building towards for eight years, and it delivers both the farce and the payoff. The night out with the hero's dad is a classic montage of degradation, and the wedding itself lands the romance without going soft. Written as if it might be the last ever episode, it has the feel of a finale, which makes its Christmas Eve slot all the more fitting.
What happens
The will-they-won't-they between Lee and Lucy reaches its biggest moment yet in this Christmas Eve series finale. Lee is slumped in front of the television in his pyjama bottoms, eating cereal from the box, at the eye of a big festive occasion, when his father Frank drags him out for a wild night on the town. It ends in disaster: a traffic cone, arm wrestling on a zebra crossing, and father and son slow dancing together to a Whitney Houston classic. The police are interested in a possibly stolen item in Lee's possession, and Lee has to talk his way out of a spectacular mess in time to make the most important appointment of his life. He makes it: by the end of the episode Lee has finally married Lucy, his long-suffering landlady.
Can the kids watch it?
Rated 15 by the BBFC for strong sex references, so it is for older teenagers and adults.
