Our take
A New Year's Day episode about a burglary and a birthday nobody wants to celebrate, with no Christmas in it at all, just a stolen ring to find. The best friend's attempts to describe the burglar are the comic engine, and there is a small mystery in the surprising letter. Nothing festive about it, and the innuendo is broad. It is for completists working through the 2020 pair rather than anyone after a Christmas watch.
What happens
Winnie has not been sleeping well and is determined to tell Agnes about her dreams, but Agnes has other things on her mind: Cathy has a significant birthday coming up, her fiftieth, and is not happy about it. Priorities change when Winnie's house is burgled and her mother's much-loved wedding ring is stolen. Agnes gets the gardai round so Winnie can give a statement, and when Buster and Dermot hear about the ring they go in search of the culprit. All they need is a proper description from Winnie, which is easier said than done. Meanwhile Agnes receives a surprising letter.
Can the kids watch it?
Rated 15 by the BBFC for strong language; the swearing and near-the-knuckle innuendo run all the way through, so it is for 15 and over, not a family watch.
