Our take
A New Year's Day action episode, by the show's standards, with a bed and breakfast, a convict on the run and Steve Speirs as the menace. The Telegraph said the corpsing and fourth-wall breaking were no longer a novelty after 50 episodes. Nothing Christmassy, though the BBC called it festive. It is a change of pace, more cops-and-robbers farce than family comedy, though the corpsing remains.
What happens
Agnes Brown turns her spare room into a bed and breakfast, but there is a dangerous escaped criminal on the loose in Finglas. What could possibly go wrong? The BBFC says she comes into contact with the escaped convict, people are held hostage at gunpoint in scenes undercut by comedy, and a shooting is shown without detail. Steve Speirs guest stars as Slasher Sam.
Can the kids watch it?
Rated 15 by the BBFC for strong language; the swearing and near-the-knuckle innuendo run all the way through, so it is for 15 and over, not a family watch.
