Last of the Summer Wine

What's Santa Brought For Nora Then?

Christmas special, first shown 23 Dec 1989, 50 min

Our take

A Christmas Eve shopping panic with a hopeless romantic at its centre, which is about as festive as the show gets. The long-running pursuit of the most formidable woman on the street is given a sweet, seasonal spin, and the search for something affordable on the last shopping day is the engine of the plot. Fifty minutes long, so there is time for the whole village to get involved. One of the four Christmas Specials DVD episodes.

What happens

Compo is determined to get Nora Batty a special present for Christmas, but he cannot think what to get her, and he has very little money to spend. He has to work out where he can find something he can afford, and whether anywhere will still be open on Christmas Eve. He tries to earn enough to buy it, and Auntie Wainwright may just have the answer to his problem.

Can the kids watch it?

Not rated by the BBFC as a separate episode; gentle and fine for families.
