Our take
A middling seasonal entry where Christmas mostly lives in one subplot, but that subplot is a gem: a charity collector whose goodwill curdles into vengeance. The odd-couple siblings story is deliberately uncomfortable and very funny if it lands for you, and George Newbern and Julie Lauren play Danny and Krista with total innocence. Watch it for Phoebe on the street corner.
What happens
Ross is on sabbatical, living with Joey and bored out of his mind. When Joey loses yet another part, Ross urges him to write a role for himself, but Chandler's newly invented game proves a far bigger draw, and the two of them squabble over what Joey should be doing. Phoebe takes a Christmas job collecting for charity on the street, determined to spread joy, and grows steadily more fierce as passing New Yorkers ignore her or treat her collection pot as a bin. Monica, tired of waiting for Rachel to act, asks their neighbour Danny out on her friend's behalf, and he says yes at once. Rachel's date seems promising until she meets his sister, Krista, and sees just how physically close the two adult siblings are; the rest of the group agrees it is too much, and Rachel calls it off. Joey finally presents a few pages of his script, which turns out to be written for Ross and Chandler.
Can the kids watch it?
Some awkward adult humour about a brother and sister and mild language; better for children from about 11, PG for the broadcast cut.
