About the show

Richard Curtis and Paul Mayhew-Archer's BBC One sitcom stars Dawn French as a woman vicar sent to a small, eccentric English parish, where the parish council and her not-so-bright verger test her patience and her faith. Three short series ran from 1994 to 2000, but the show really belongs to the holidays: most of its later life was a run of Christmas and New Year specials, from the three-lunch Christmas of 1996 and the live nativity of 1999 to the 2004 and 2006 pairs that topped the festive ratings, and BBC One still repeats them on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
